HANOItexasholdemonlinefree, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese National Assembly on Thursday approved a ban on driving with any level of blood alcohol, as part of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, local media reported.

The zero blood and breath alcohol provision has been implemented for several years in Vietnam, but only now is set to become law, VnExpress reported.

The National Assembly Standing Committee said maintaining the zero-alcohol tolerance aimed to protect the life, health and property of citizens and safeguard social resources. It will help establish a culture of "no drinking and driving."

Drivers with alcohol will face a penalty of 2 million Vietnamese dong (78 U.S. dollars) to 8 million dong (314 U.S. dollars), and have license suspended from 10 to 24 months depending on their level of alcohol, according to the newly-passed law.
